The Brain Box!

BeerHere has created another mixed box just for you!

The Brain Box
Take a break from the festive season's over indulging.
Give your Brain a rest.
All those dark and heavy winter beers contain 'cogners' which are colouring and flavouring. These don't do your system much good; leaving you a little uneasy and headachey. The Beers in this box are light in colour and have a high yeast content with very few (if any) cogners. This bodes well for a clearer mind and healthier body.
All of the 10 beers in this beer mixed case reduce the chances of that groggy feeling leaving you with a level head.
Available in the New Year!

The Kwak Glass Story

Kwak beer is brewed in the Bosteels Brewery. Although it is a very popular beer in Belgium people tend to recognise it by its glass.
The glass has a very unique look. It is a 25cm tube with a bulbous bottom and a flared top, stood in a wooden stand.
The idea behind this is not just to have a different glass that stands out amongst other brands. There is a bit of history involved:

In the late 1700s and early 1800s Pauwel Kwak was a brewer and the owner of the De Hoorn inn (near Brussels). Mail coaches stopped at the De Hoorn Inn everyday, but they were not allowed to leave their coach and horses unatended. This ruled out the thought of having a relaxing drink inside the Inn.
The inventive innkeeper took pity on the coachmen and had a special and unique Kwak glass blown that could be hung on the coach. This enabled the coachmen to quench their thirst without leaving the coach and horses unatended.

November's favourite two beers: Victoria Bitter and Desperados.
Victoria Bitter or VB as it is more fondly known is one of Australia's favourite full strength beers.
Dating back to the 1890s it has a tradition of rewarding hard work and hard play.
Lately it has been a frequent winner of the respected Australian Liquor Industry Awards (ALIA). In 2001 it was awarded 'Best Full Strength Beer', in 2002 'Tap Beer of the Year' and in 2003 again 'Best Full Strength Beer'.

Victoria Bitter is a full flavoured brew, less malty in character and slightly darker than Carlton & United Breweries' (CUB) traditional lagers.

Desperados beer is a very refreshing pale lager with lime and tequila. People assume it is Mexican beer however it is brewed at Brasserie Fischer in France.

World Beer Awards 2008

Awarded best Ale of 2008: http://www.beers-of-the-world.com/wba08/index.php
Tripel Karmeliet, made by the small brewery Bosteels, the makers of Kwak, this is a new beer made unusually using three types of grain. It’s wonderfully smooth and aromatic. The Carmelites apparently made a three grain beer in the 1600’s and the recipe was stumbled on by accident. He three grains are barley, wheat and oats in both raw and malted forms. Styrian hops, a generous spicing and the fruity character of the house yeast make a complex beer with a light crisp and lemon dryness.

Beer of the Month

BeerHere's beer of the month:
Vedett Extra White joined the Vedett range in July 2008. In the brewing of this white beer, Duvel Moortgat used natural ingredients such as wheat, barley, hops, dried orange peel and coriander.

Christmas Beers (also known as Winter Warmers)

To meet the difficulties of preservation, breweries traditionally made their beers to the rhythms of crops. In October, breweries in northern Europe used all their old barley and hops reserves to make a beer to be consumed at the end of the year (Christmas beers were originally called October Beer).

Christmas beers benefit from cooler autumn temperatures and can age quietly for several weeks. They reach full maturity around Christmas time to become an ale-type beer, strong and dense. They pair perfectly with the season's festive dishes, from the most traditional to the most sophisticated. Sometimes these beers were offered as a new year's present to employees and the best customers; Nowadays these seasonal beers are brewed specially for the Christmas market and are available to be purchased each December

Christmas beers are smooth, well-rounded, full-bodied beers with a deep amber colour and a creamy rich head. Blended with the finest malts (pale malts for strength, and roasted malts for flavour and colour), they are slightly more caloric and more flavorful than other beers. The alcohol content is also slightly higher than most beers (6%).

Brewers generally indulge their creativity when preparing their Christmas brews, adding individual little touches such as cinnamon, coriander, ginger or honey. The distinctive characteristics of Christmas beers are a dark colour, from amber to brown with a fine, dense foamy head and a very aromatic, fruity nose; the palate is very rich, with caramel and fruit flavours.
